Sip coffee inside a giant vintage camera at family-run Dreamy Camera Cafe

Dreamy Camera Cafe23

Your eye might have gone directly to the giant red building in the photo, but behind that odd architecture is a happy family living their dream. Army aviation pilot, Park Sung-Hwan and his wife (who also happens to be a recently retired army aviation pilot) took their love of photography and coffee to the extreme, creating a one-of-a-kind cafe that resembles a Rolleiflex camera. It sits right next to their modest home, a juxtaposition of tradition and whimsy, and is nothing short of a scene out of a storybook.

The Rolleiflex camera building was designed and built by Park and took six years to complete. The two giant circular windows, which mimic a real camera lens, serve as the focal point of this bizarre yet quaint structure.

Since it’s completion in 2013, the Rolleiflex building has become know as the Dreamy Camera Cafe, which is run by Park’s wife.

▼ A handwritten sign greets patrons.

▼ Park’s 8-year-old daughter puts finishing touches on the menu.

▼ Homemade pastries and drinks add to this cafe’s charm.

The two-storey building has tables and chairs for patrons and is decorated with Park’s photographs, photography books and may different types of cameras, including a real Rolleiflex camera.

But it’s the small details that make Dreamy Camera Cafe a must-see.

▼ Enjoy the fresh air on picnic tables just outside the cafe.

▼ The building’s beautiful circular windows make for the perfect place to relax.

▼ Park’s daughter and small dog make frequent appearances at Dreamy Camera Cafe.

If you’d like to visit Dreamy Camera Cafe, you’ll have to travel to the countryside town of Yangpyeong, 40 miles south of Seoul. It seems this unique place can only be reached by car from the nearest station, so if you are unable to make the considerable trek, you can always enjoy more views of this delightful cafe on Dreamy Camera Cafe’s official Facebook page.
