Comic Con, a festival of pop culture and entertainment, will be coming to Tokyo next year, and they’ve already put on a huge announcement bash!

Yes, fans of sci-fi, tech, games, comics, anime and much more will have a lot to look forward to next year, as it was recently announced that a Comic Con event will be held in Japan on December 3 and 4, 2016 at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center—the same venue in which Tokyo Game Show is held.

The event will be a sister convention to the Silicon Valley Comic Con organized by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and will be put on by the same team.

In fact, they had a huge preview event this past weekend on December 5 and 6 in the Shinagawa district in central Tokyo to kickstart the fun and excitement for the inaugural Tokyo Comic Con. Wozniak himself was there at the Shinagawa InterCity Hall to make the official announcement, joined by Star Wars actors Ian McDiarmid, who played Emperor Palpatine, and Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in Episode I of the series.

You can see from the pictures shared though Tokyo Comic Con’s official Twitter account that everyone seemed to have a ball at the announcement event!

Although not a large amount of info has been announced yet, according to the information on the Tokyo Comic Con official website, appearances by movie and TV stars, autograph signings, photo and Q&A sessions, as well as a wide range of art and merchandise can be expected at the event.

If you’re interested, tickets are scheduled to go on sale in March next year, and you’ll want to keep an eye on the Comic Con website for updates as information becomes available. This being in Japan, we already know there’ll be plenty of people wanting to cosplay and take pictures, and it’ll be interesting to see what other unique Japanese content will be incorporated into the Comic Con format!
