Rurouni Kenshin sumi-e prints are the most wanted holiday gifts on our wish list

Turns out the tales of Battousai the Manslayer make for great ink paintings.

The history of the art form known as sumi-e dates back hundreds of years in Japan and is easily recognizable by the emphatic and intentional brush strokes made on the paper. It’s a beautiful style of art and generally features scenes of mountains, trees or other elements of nature, although paintings featuring animals are also popular. For Rurouni Kenshin fans, they may find that the sumi-e style fits perfectly for Kenshin Himura and his most famous frenemy and foe.

These amazing pieces feature Himura Kenshin, Hajime Saitou and Makoto Shishio, three of the strongest characters in the epic series by Nobuhiro Watsuki. What makes these ink paintings so compelling is that they feature the swordsmen in positions that exemplify their swordsmanship style. Kenshin is in the midst of using his Hiten Mitsurugi style, which allows him to defeat several foes at the same time. Saitou is shown in his classic Gatotsu form and finally Shishio is seated, presumably after overpowering his opponents with a number of fighting skills.

Each of these wonderful pieces of art is set in a wooden frame, giving it the formality of a real piece of artwork that deserves to hang prominently in one of the most used rooms in the house. The total size, with the frame, is 342 millimeters x 465 millimeters (13.46 inches x 18.31 inches) making them just the right size to feature on a bare wall. Each print will cost 7,560 yen (US$64.40) and will be available for pre-order from Animex+ starting on December 17. These three pieces of art will definitely go down in history, just like the legend of Battousai the Manslayer.
