7-Eleven Japan adds new chocolate fruit gummies to its sweets range, but are they worth the hype?
Oona McGee Aug 3, 2026- Tweet

Convenience store chain has become the place to go for gummies, and fans are going wild for them.
In recent years, 7-Eleven has carved out a niche for itself in the Japanese convenience store world as the place to go for gummies, specifically the exclusive chocolate-covered fruit gummy range known as “Chocotto Gummy“. A play on the words “choco to gummy” (“chocolate and gummy“) and “chokotto gummy” (“just a little gummy“), this range has become so popular that people have been known to buy multiple bags at a time.
▼ That popularity is set to continue with two brand new varieties: Okinawan Brown Sugar & Pineapple and Okinawan Brown Sugar & Mango.
Okinawa is famous for producing high-quality brown sugar in its tropical climate, but we weren’t sure how it would pair with chocolate gummies, so we decided to try both varieties to see how they would taste. The two packets, with their summery hibiscus motifs, look surprisingly similar at first glance so be careful not to grab the wrong one when you’re shopping.
▼ Let’s start the taste test with the Okinawan Brown Sugar & Pineapple.
▼ Each packet contains around 10 gummies.
With their beautiful, glossy chocolate coating, these look like solid chocolate balls, but when you lift one to your mouth, you get a slight scent of pineapple, which piques your curiosity as you take a bite.
The first thing you’ll taste is the sweetness of the chocolate, before the sweetly tart pineapple gummy component takes centre stage as you chew, making it feel like you’re eating a chunk of chocolate-covered pineapple. The Okinawan brown sugar is subtle, adding only a slight hint of flavour in the aftertaste. This is welcome news for gummy fans, as those with an aversion to the taste of brown sugar will hardly notice its presence, due to the well-balanced harmony between flavours.
▼ Next up is the Okinawan Brown Sugar & Mango.
▼Again, 10 chocolate-covered gummies inside.
From the second you open the bag, you’ll be engulfed in sweet, summery mango aromas, instantly lifting your mood with their deliciously fruity appeal. The gummy centre in each one is packed with the rich tropical flavour of mango, but when combined with the chocolate coating, the flavour becomes even deeper the longer you chew. As with the pineapple version, the brown sugar isn’t particularly noticeable, creating a nuanced flavour that appeals to adult tastes while making them incredibly easy to eat.
In fact, the ratio between fruit and chocolate is so perfect that it’s dangerously easy to keep munching on these. Whether you prefer the tartness of pineapple or the rich sweetness of mango, these gummies will satisfy your sweet cravings all summer long.
The combination of gummy and chocolate is like the best of both worlds, and they’re ready to perk you up at your nearest 7-Eleven, where they’re priced at 170 yen (US$1.15) each.
