Lookalike tourist has everyone guessing on the island of Palawan https://soranews24.com/2019/05/28/cameron-diaz-in-the-philippines-lookalike-tourist-fools-everyone-on-the-island-of-palawan/ https://soranews24.com/2019/05/28/cameron-diaz-in-the-philippines-lookalike-tourist-fools-everyone-on-the-island-of-palawan/#comments Tue, 28 May 2019 05:00:12 +0000 http://soranews24.com/?p=453692 Even local media reported news of Diaz’s visit, suggesting Bradley Cooper was by her side for the trip.

The jet set lifestyle of Hollywood celebrities means they can travel anywhere in the world at the drop of a hat, so it’s not uncommon for a well-known star to pop up unannounced on a small island in Southeast Asia. However, when they don’t post photos of their trip on social media, some people might get suspicious, and that’s exactly what happened recently, when American actress Cameron Diaz was apparently spotted at El Nido in Palawan, Philippines.

The popular tourist destination is well-frequented by foreign visitors, but when a tall, slender blonde walked into the I Love Backyard BBQ eatery, locals on the island went into a frenzy, thinking Diaz had come to visit.

This post on social media, captioned with “Guess who came by to visit us at I Love Backyard BBQ Palawan @camerondiaz?!?” was the post that started it all, with a #BradleyCooper hashtag hinting that the foreigner accompanying Diaz was believed to be fellow actor Bradley Cooper.

So was it really Diaz and Cooper at the restaurant? Scroll through the photos below so you can decide for yourself!

Staff at the restaurant later admitted that the visitor who looked like Cooper actually wasn’t the real deal, but they maintained that the blonde woman was Diaz, saying in a later Instagram story: “And she came back! It’s definitely Cameron but not Bradley.”

Local news outlets were also convinced they had a Hollywood movie star in their midst, with the Philippine Star newspaper, Cosmopolitan magazine, and news site ABS CBN reporting news that Diaz was on the island.

CNN Philippines reporter Charles Tiu also took to Twitter to report that Diaz was staying at the Vanilla Beach El Nido Property, in a now-deleted tweet.

However, Diaz made no mention of being in the Philipines on social media, so was Diaz really on the island?

After a heated online debate involving people from around the world, the general consensus is that this is definitely not Diaz, but a lookalike tourist instead.

Still, the owner of I Love Backyard BBQ Palawan says the woman claimed she was “the real Cameron”, and really, either way, it’s done wonders for their business.

▼ Camaron Rebosado is a staple food in the Philippines, made up of deep-fried battered shrimp dish served with a sweet and sour sauce.

While we know for certain that this was not Camaron Rebosado, whether or not this was Cameron Diaz remains a mystery that can only be solved by the actress herself. Hopefully she’ll comment on the issue soon, and while we wait to hear from her, we’ll be watching this clip of her husband Benji Madden singing in Japanese.

Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of big-name celebrities visit Japan, and sometimes we even get to sit down and interview them too. One of the latest famous faces to grace our shores is comedian “Weird Al” Yankovic, and though he didn’t have time to stop by the SoraNews24 office during his visit, he still made us laugh with all the photos he took while he was here.

Yankovich arrived in Tokyo last month, and was welcomed to the country with this chocolate masterpiece from the Peninsula Hotel.

Like many visitors to Japan, Yankovich had Harajuku at the top of his list of places to go while in the city.

The comedian was lucky enough to attend a Japanese festival, complete with food stalls which serve up tasty delights like this one, which isn’t actually a fried drill bit, but a whole fried potato on a stick!

Then it was on to one of the country’s most beautiful – and congested – tourist destinations, Kyoto.

If you’re looking for a celebrity itinerary to take inspiration from during your next visit to Japan, you could do worse than follow in the footsteps of Weird Al.

However, if you want to avoid some of the crowds around Kyoto, you might want to try this early-morning walking tour, and if you’re feeding the deer in Nara, follow these tips to ensure you don’t become one of the many tourists who are injured by the animals there year after year!

When American actor-director Misha Collins, who you might know from roles in Supernatural and 24 or appearances in CSI and ER, visited Japan recently, his tweets sparked excitement online. Mr Collins tweeted several snaps of his time in Japan, including his encounter with a very eccentric Santa Claus!

Japanese netizens were, on the whole, totally bemused by the “Santa” shown in the tweet on Mr Collins’s official Twitter account, with many feeling embarrassed due to the elderly man’s wacky get-up.

▲ “Santa Claus seems a little different in Japan!”

Here’s what the Japanese internet had to say about Mr Collins’s tweet:

“I’m Japanese but that doesn’t look like any Japanese Santa I know!”

“That’s not Santa, that’s just some old fart!”

“He seems a little different to us Japanese people too!”

“Can’t quite understand why this old Santa dude’s worth taking a picture with!”

“Japan being misunderstood yet again…”

“Please stop, I’m ashamed for Japan!”

Mr Collins, who was in town for Hollycon (Hollywood Collector’s Convention), also retweeted a picture snapped by one of the fans who greeted him at the airport upon his arrival:

RT @raystarship: "#finally #AtLast #WelcomeToJapanMisha! #SPNFamily pic.twitter.com/mTrAg0JqMY" thank you all for greeting us at the airport!

He also shared this cute snap of himself with a waitress, including a link to a YouTube video!

The video features Mr Collins and his son, West, enjoying an adorable rendition of Jingle Bells by a class of cute-as-buttons elementary-school students!

With some light digging on Mr Collins’s official YouTube account, we also unearthed a video where he speaks a little Japanese as he announces his plans to visit Japan for Hollycon (although the video’s title in Japanese reads “I’m coming to Japan for a vacation”). Also featured in the video is his adorable daughter, Maison!

We love it when Western celebrities come to Japan, even more so when they’ve taken the time to do their homework and learn some Japanese first! Good on you, sir!

Having lived in Toronto for 5 years where a great number of Hollywood movies are shot and home to a major film festival, the biggest celebrity I ever saw was a lady who did 5 minute segments between reruns of The Simpsons and Married With Children on the local station.

On the other hand some people have all the luck like our very own Yoshio who scored big on his first day of a business trip to New York running into none other than Ferris Bueller himself, Matthew Broderick!  More amazing than seeing the star of the American Godzilla in the flesh was discovering his superhuman ability to blur his own face in photos.

Having just arrived in the Big Apple, Yoshio was wandering the streets in search of something to eat.  Just then he noticed a large crowd gathering outside of a theatre.

Forgetting his hunger he thought, “What the hell’s that?” and went to check it. Making his way through the crowd he was surprised to see the voice of Simba signing autographs and taking photos with fans. It seems he was just finishing a performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It on Broadway.

Reaching for his camera Yoshio took a picture of the star of stage and screen but when quickly checking the photo Matthew’s face was blurred out! He quickly went for another snapshot but again everything but his face could be seen!

“What trickery be this?” thought Yoshio.  He kept trying to capture the star with his camera but alas he was too late. Broderick was safely in his car on his way back to wifey, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Switching his camera to video mode he made one more effort to catch him and started filming his car.  However, a scary policeman approached and he had to turn off the camera.

Regardless of Matthew Broderick’s photographic evading abilities it was still a treat to see him in person.  Yoshio carried on in search of food with a light heart thinking “I love New York!”
